Nikki's Profile

I am 31 years old. I am a mom of three, a wife, a nurse, a student and now a cancer fighter. I went in to the emergency room in October of 2014 with what I thought was a gallbladder attack. CT scans and ultrasounds showed something entirely different. There was a 4.1 cm "something" looming in my lower abdomen. An exploratory surgery took place in November and the "soft tissue tumor" was resected only about 20% because it was located in my mesentery area surrounded by arteries. I ended up with a small bowel resection as well because the tumor had encased itself in my bowel causing a partial bowel obstruction. After released from the hospital I started following an oncologist for the tumor. Pathology reports confirmed an extremely rare desmoid tumor. I was offered a clinical trial of Sorafenib for this tumor. I take two pills everyday at night. The greatest advice I received was from my oncologist who I have developed much appreciation and respect for. He said " You will never be normal again. You will now have to find a new normal." This is where my journey starts.......

Sorafinib (Nexavar)

The threat of ripping away what precious time I have left on this earth.

More than I ever thought possible. I am not in control. I need to give up control. I need to be more in tune with my faith. I am strong. I am a fighter.

Have faith. Know you are strong even at your weakest.
